On the basis of the feedback received from the Standing Committee, the Government of India withdrew the three new criminal law bills which it had introduced in Parliament.

This is good news because the three new criminal law bills seemed to have been drawn up in haste. They continued the structure and the system of the current criminal law acts with some significant changes.

The changes designed into the new criminal law bills would not have overhauled the criminal justice system and thus it would have been a missed opportunity in case they had been passed by Parliament.
